Volunteers and Fosters = Our Greatest Assets
“Our greatest asset is our volunteers and fosters – the time, energy, and dedication that they bring”, says Robin King FYCAS President. The more volunteers and fosters that we have means the more animals that we are able to save.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering or fostering at the York County Animal Shelter. You have a vital role within our organization. Without your support, we would not be able to fulfill our mission on a daily basis. We encourage the participation from those who support and believe in our mission: “Friends of York County Animal Shelter is dedicated to provide helpful animal services to all residents of York County, both humans and animals alike, and to provide care and comfort to all strays and unwanted pets.”
Volunteers help by walking dogs, socializing cats, and assist potential adopters in finding the best match for their next pet. Outside of the shelter, we network and promote the animals available for both adoption and rescue, educate the public about low cost veterinary and spay/neuter programs, and raise funds to help support the animals in finding their fur-ever homes.
Sometimes, animals are too sensitive for the crowded shelter and need a different environment to thrive. Fosters are matched with an approved rescue and an animal at the shelter to provide a temporary home for the animal, as well as networking and socialization, while working with the rescue to find a loving fur-ever home.
FYCAS volunteers and fosters all share the common goal of reducing the euthanasia rate of unwanted pets. Since the founding of FYCAS, the shelter has seen a large decrease in the number of intakes and euthanasia. A higher percentage of the adoptable animals are finding new homes, and FYCAS continues to grow while also educating and providing resources to the residents of York County.
